The downside, of course, is the following: no handholding, no safety net, no account recovery, no big brother to take care of you and nerf the content you're going to see.

Personal responsibility. That's what #nostr requires of you.

Bitcoin and nostr are both responsibility go up technology

What we are living is wild!

Big boy pants

So it's kinda like that Bitcoin thing right?

And let’s add the biggest one too, you can’t delete anything.

Did you put a lot of time into a post to make it formatted really beautifully for everyone on Nostr to see and then when you clicked on post, the image link wasn’t loading correctly? Nothing you can do but make a reply to your own post like “sorry guys the screenshot isn’t loading for some reason so I have to make this addendum post so you know what I’m talking about. Hopefully you scrolled down this far!”

Or what about the scenario:

“sorry guys for posting that long tutorial about how awesome nostr is four times, (and using up a lot of your data, battery life, etc) but the client I was using crashed after clicking post.”

Also:

“Hey guys the site to the link I posted back in 2024 was taken over by someone with bad intentions and now it contains known malware. I want to take personal responsibility because I shared it back then and at the time of writing there was no delete NIP so tell everyone to scroll to the bottom and read this message so they don’t get scammed!”

I love what you have to say when I watch videos with you in it. I’m curious about your thoughts on this and what can be done for the long term.

Hopefully this can inspire some productive discussion so we don’t end up in a situation where everyone is storing junk posts on their relays that contain typos, errors, etc. and people are like “yeah, I would love to take personal responsibility and clean up my posts, not to mention saving some harddrive space but I just can’t!”

NOSTR kind 5 (NIP-09 Event Deletion) exists and has already been implemented and observed in some fashion by some nostr clients and relays.

Note: NOSTR kind 5 is a best effort approach and relies on both the client and the relay on observing the protocol rules. It is by no means perfect. Nothing is.

It will not save you in court.

It is no different from X deciding to backup your "deleted" tweets and sharing DB with third party.

There may be straightforward solution to this, pioneered on blockchain-based blogging sites like Steemit, Hive, and Whaleshares; namely, versioning.

Maybe I need to learn how to write NIPs, but if someone who already knows how, please take and run with this.

The basic idea 💡 is to have clients provide an "edit" capability to allow users to revise older notes. The revised version would then be published containing references to the earlier version(s). When a note is referenced, relays could deliver the latest version (or any specific earlier version(s) if you cared to check the history.)

Any devs out there care to discuss what it would take to implement this?🙏😁💜🫂😆❓

Could this also work for note translation? In order to create multi-language content.

your nsec is everything, people ain't gonna like that lol
