People say you shouldn’t buy real estate, but also say rent seekers are evil.
Discussion
Here an article I read and liked about this lately : https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/magazine/buy-or-rent. You should think for yourself, do your calculations, and see what suits you best.
Just do what u want and what's best for your family
I'm not putting my family in a 1 bedroom studio apartment
The latter are correct, the former are not.
People are crazy.
buy real estate with savings not debt.
Buy real estate for building something great not to live a life.
So renting is OK? Landlords are OK?
If it’s consensual it’s ok
The current problem with landlords/renting is that our entire system of lending and debt is fake, and it enables people to artificially consume resources they haven’t earned and then leach their value
There will always be a market for rentals and the debate between owning or renting is a personal decision which depends on your individual philosophies and economic positioning
Couldn’t agree more .
if I can manage cashflow, renting is fine, depend on lifestyle and workplace.
but the ideal is owning my own real estate which is also my workplace.
If you run a profitable business with your rental properties it is just like any business with depreciation of assets and positive cash flows that can be intermittently swept into a reserve asset that will appreciate irrespective of money printing
Don't buy real estate for the assumed appreciation but do run profitable businesses
Rent seeking has mothing to do with being a landlord
I may have missed the lango, I thought all landlords are rent seekers also, no? Technically they are.
Technically they are not. Rent seeking is an economic term coined about 200 years ago identifying people gaining political, social or other control over property or economic activity to their economic benefit and without providing economic value to society. A typical example is a land patent, guild, license, bribery of politicians and government officials, creating wars to sell weapons to the government with inflation, etc.
