A job that doesn’t pay is a hobby. It’s still work, but it’s not a job.

Why don’t bitcoin companies hire developers to develop the software they completely rely on? That makes way more sense than guilting and shaming people into donating to devs. Not saying that you do that, but many people do.

we kind of do

however, we don’t hire them on staff because that commingles too much of the incentives. what we want is no strings attached funding. so instead we give money to projects like OpenSats run by Gigi. they then deploy the capital, manage the grants, etc
