I am an american who took 12 years of Spanish in school. Like most americans, I guess, I still never really grasped the language. I visited Costa Rica a few years back ( a small town on the pacific coast) and tried to only speak Spanish. It's fun, and the people were understanding and helpful, but I can barely get out of the present tense! We will probably visit again next year.
