nostrudel has full and customizable reaction emojis... even you can put arbitrary gif images in there and it renders tiny little animations

Nostrudel is cool... I still don't use it much though. It hurts my eyes for some reason, and honestly is a bit more busy than I prefer when I'm able to sit at a screen, so I pretty much only use it for specific tasks

The eye thing is weird... it's like it's too bright regardless of how its set. I have the same issue with primal. I'm certain it's me & some sort of hypersensitivity. That's a running theme in my life 😂

yeah i have a similar thing with sound, certain kinds of sounds and frequencies really put me on edge

i'm starting to suspect it relates to some mineral deficiency, because adding magnesium and potassium to my diet seems to be reducing it, but it's probably different with eyes, even still, if your iris doesn't contract enough to lower the light level it will seem overly bright and that can be painful, and come to think of it, i've noticed this also with my own eyes, maybe it is related to neuro/muscular stuff and electrolytes

what happens here is because of how cloudy it often is here in Sao Vicente, sometimes there is just a little sunbeam shining right on a bright white painted object, like the little chapel/clocktower over across the other side, and i get that bloom effect on it, like, the light whites out stuff, and i also notice that the tiny little people i see walking around up there, at the same time their little dots of light seem excessively strong

so it could actually indicate your eyes are not constricting enough for the light level... probably lowering the brightness of the device will help in this, possibly cutting the blue down on the display may help, though green is the really bright colour, blue tends to make it hard to focus on stuff (that's why night shooting glasses tend to be amber)... green is the brightest of the colours, but also the sharpest

also, yeah, i think probably the dark theme on nostrudel the text is too bright, and the frame colourrs on things maybe also

That green is bright

that colour can be customized, and it applies also to the highlighted buttons like the submit button in the edit, but what bothers me is the frames, that's always been the ugly part of the design, they should be just single colour, low contrast difference from the background

lines are a no-no for elegant typography

I'll try changing it next time. It'll be a curiois experiment since primal had no green & causes it too. Their looks are easy to switch between but they all cause it.

yeah, lowering contrast is really the main thing, but also the peak brightness... many devices don't have good adjustments for this, mobiles often have a blue filter now and brightness but no contrast, and on linux i can't get any contrast adjustment, only gamma, which doesn't help that much, and the display adjustment controls are really difficult to navigate, i wish they'd just put rows of buttons on the front instead of this dumb stuff on the back and minimal buttons

i also find that primal's interface is too contrasty, too many bright thin elements, colours too saturated

💯 turning down the contrast would probably help. As far as visuals, Satellite is bliss for me. Dense display, neutral tones, not too bright. There's a lot about that client that I love. 😂

ah yeah, i don't really use it but i have a subscription to its CDN that i use instead of nostr.build now after being insulted a few too many times by "good vibes only" mister fishcake

and yeah, looking at it, it is a much better design and colour, though i am not a big fan of its menu slider, or the totally minimal controls in general

It always works. It's clean, dense & simple. After the initial loading time, it's fast. The way it surfaces conversations has always been my favorite thing about it. For just normal browsing & conversation, it's my favorite. Profiles are pretty. Lol. The media hosting is great. I use both that and .build .

yeah, it's slow at opening the side panel for me, idk, brave maybe?

also i don't like how the feed view is a side panel and there's this other thing that is mostly not interesting

and no control-enter submit either>_<

The right side? Click around a bit, that changes to whatever you have open.

Can't speak browser differences. I'm a lazy normie about those.

I don't know. I have always been hypersensitive to smells, fake light, and sound. Sun doesn't bother me at all. I don't even own sunglasses. But I keep my inside spaces very dim. I have a theory that nature upped my sensory capacity since I was destined to be small in stature. 😂

Do you supplement K & Mg or try to increase it through diet?

i'm doing both... it's led me to adding potato back to my diet (it's very high in K) and bananas, also very high, as well as actually having a substantial amount of potassium chloride that i add to drinks and yogurt and put on other foods i eat as well, and the magnesium unfortunately it's not the best, carbonate, hydroxide and citrate, but it is definitely working

i think it takes time for the tissue to regenerate and absorb the stuff into it as well, almost a week after i started on the potassium i started to really feel noticable relief from the cramping, i suspect that it takes 1-3 months to fully recover normal distribution of these minerals, according to stuff i've read about potassium deficiency

i shoud also add that in my case it's related to my kidneys and i have to be careful about diuretics, been exploring different options to cut back on that, pretty much i have to restrict my caffeine and alcohol intake, i feel much better when i do, and when i go too far i feel pretty bad for days, it's got to this point

I'm glad you're starting to find some balance. 🫂

yeah... it's mostly related to kidney disease, i think, and the biggest part of the damage that set me back this far was actually artificial sweeteners

there is a lot of evidence hinting at the idea that especially acesulfame-k is quite nephrotoxic, but the others to some extent as well

i was just noticing, also, a juice drink i got that has stevia as its sweetener, when i added some potassium chloride and sea salt, the flavor reminded me a lot of dutch salty liquorice, and i realised that stevia's sweetness is probably due to some similar glycoside type chemical in it that is like what's in liquorice - and i believe that too much of that stuff can do some bad things to your organs and stuff as well, but a little is ok

and here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8962506/

the word "hypokalemia" appears as a symptom of excess liquorice consumption

it's probably related to a whole thing that is related to the taste of sweet and the chemical properties of sweet things

like, another sweet substance is dichloromethane... which is very hepa-and nephrotoxic, and interestingly also, magnesium is quite sweet, to the point where it is common parlance to talk about magnesium/calcium additives for soil being "sweeteners" and that it is something related to being opposite to sour, though that's not quite correct because bitter is the main flavor of alkali

Funny how the path to healing gets clearer as you go huh? 😊

yeah, i'm sure there is still more corrections to be made but i'm on the track now a lot of the time
