I've been thinking about hashtags on Nostr for some time now, specifically the -str tags.

I think we should drop the -ster and focus on building content troves using the "classic" tags.

This will make it easier for people coming to Nostr from tradsocials to find content and also allow them to seamlessly integrate in.

I also think it would make tags cleaner and consolidate more effectively posts and media. For example, when posting food that I cooked, I'll use both the Food and Foodstr tags because I don't know which is better and more followed.

Should we ditch the -str or embrace being different and quirky here and keep on keeping on? #asknostr #nostr

It has been tried. #thenostr likes the -strs. But it does also seem to somewhat reduce the reach of hashtag abusers... for what that's worth.

No. Keep it #weirdstr. Normies arenโ€™t avoiding Nostr because of our hashtags.

I'd say they're not avoiding but rather just completely unaware ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think of NOSTR as a private members club.

Like a yacht club. Mike we yachting this week?

I'm down to clown

Browsing, but I am put off by the spate of deaths and murders on cruise ships recently.

#NOstr

Well played ๐Ÿ˜‚

I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Hashtags will grow organically and in due time str will fall off usage, however we are still โ€œseeing the band before they were cool.โ€ We need to build our culture so that it is strong enough to withstand the masses.

The protocol already has everything a new user is looking for, except the content, which is all user created. So for now we grow in obscurity until we are ready to bloom a million blooms.

the problem of network effect, at the beginning it seemed simple, then it became more and more difficult, only one "culture" is allowed, indeed these are things that are difficult to eradicate

Coming into Nostr very recently. I saw some str tags and figured it's some weird inside thing. It's fucking dumb. Don't reinvent the wheel.
