Fun fact: back then (around the time Jesus lived), wine almost certainly had a lower alcohol content. Most natural (wild) yeast used for fermentation actually stopped working around 4-7% ABV. Modern strains have been developed to allow fermentation up to 12-15%, but these didn't exist back then. Also, it was very common practice in the Greco-Roman world to dilute wine with water in a 1:2 or 1:4 ratio and was considered barbaric and inappropriate to drink it straight. So, not exactly a direct comparison. Also, my high school Latin teacher would be very proud of me right now for remembering this!
