Has anyone noticed that overall food quality is getting worse.. We opened a watermelon the other day it tasted like rubber, had to toss it.. We only buy grass-fed because the other steaks taste like crap..

Fiat food
I love US for certain reasons but when I went to Japan for the first time and then came back home to the states, I was legit depressed over the food. I couldn’t believe the difference in quality. The food I had been eating at home all of the sudden tasted like rubbery shit.
Granted, I didn’t go to farmers markets at that time. Farmers market food tastes soooo much better - everything from vegetables to meats.
Totally agree. It's a land of extremes in food.
If you take the time (and can afford it) you can eat incredibly well in the US.
If you go the default path though you'll be eating dog shit.
💯depending where you live in the states, you can have access to great local organic food if you visit local vendors. The corporate food world has become a total wasteland of empty calories devoid of nutrition. Many people just dont have access to or can’t afford good food.
There’s something strange about US food.
I dont know if its the transport or the processing, but something bad has been normalised somewhere in the chain.
US chefs however are excellent.
In Europe we have the opposite problem by default, better ingredients but average chef is lower standard.
Obviously there are exceptions all over the place.
Well, Monsanto controls a ton of food production in US and farmers buy their modified seeds. It could be that the modifications they make render the produce tasteless? Just a guess. Perhaps combined with low quality soil abused by fertilizer, you bet a combo of crappy food? I don’t know much about this space.
I have generally the opposite observation, time preference is so high in the US that chefs cut corners to kill their customers.
One (main) reason : quality of soil around the world is degrading. Scan through this movement website :
Yea last year I tasted a piece of cantaloupe that did not taste like food.
