Olive growers used to swear by Olivarda, otherwise known as mata- mosca or fly killer. Not that there are any olives our way this year, but it is an attractant to the wasps that go after the olive fruit fly.

This happens to be under a tree that is a pain to pick anyway, being near a building. The smart way of doing is it to plant it out in huge areas along or around the margins of olive grove terracing.

And that's all I know about olives 😂

It's going to be weird having literally not one olive on 200 trees after this last year's marathon where the harvest was beyond record breaking and the mills closed weeks later than usual, but still before everything was picked.

and it seems to be an attractant to cats, who go after the wasps 😉

Good spot . At the moment there's not much of any life, it's actually raining. Yay

Why do you have no olives this year when you had so many last? Weather conditions?

rain fed olive trees are alternate fruiting. Because there were so many last season, it is good the trees can recuperate. Having said that I wasn't expecting to see literally none, but I was not around for the last record year to know. The whole area is the same.

It's the irrigated groves that give most years, but that's a whole different ball game.

Found this picture of the last olive harvest. I don't know if you can see, but the trees could not have found room for one more drop of fruit. It was literally mad. So the trees need a breather big time. More accurately, they have taken a breather, I have no say in the matter:)
