This is the problem with dragging everything into the political realm, there can be no neutrality. In a sense, I agree with you, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to wear a shirt or celebrate a holiday of your choosing.
As a gay though, one married before the federal mandate, I can assure you this support is neither required nor desired. All I need and deserve is my property rights and freedom of association, give me the same tax benefits everyone else gets and you won't hear a peep out of me. Attaching your identity to your sexuality was something I have always been against; nothing about the way I live my life is reflective of anything but what I value, I like cars and computers and I work with wrenches and screwdrivers.
