Please help me understand what i am doing wrong: opening a #lightning channel with a provider in #alby hub is quite costly and it keeps getting closed after some weeks - likely due to inactivity. I don’t have enough throughput to justify burning money just to have a lightning address laying around, therefor i gave up on the idea of having this option on my donate page a little while ago… at the same time the network keeps getting hyped like it was a nonissue.

are you running your own lightning node?

yes, alby hub. it is up 24/7

i have no experience with nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm hub, but i use a custodial lightning wallet for the small amounts i use lightning for at the moment

hmm good point, maybe i should consider this - though since i do much selfhosting it just felt right

i love selfhosting myself, but for small volume payments i prefer custodial atm. it is like cash on me when i leave the house. that might change in the future, when i transfer maybe more money over lightning

Maybe see the custodial approach as a solution for the transition till you have more transactions. I use AlbyHub for over a year now and, despite I have some times issues with channels going down temporarily, it works mostly pretty well. I had only one channel closed and it was a long time ago. Thanks for the services you are providing, that's awesome.
