What if this is where we all already are right now. That this is all a simulation to see if we can reform ourselves from the negative traits of our personality that caused our imprisonment in the first place?
If we succeed then we are let go. If we don't, we just keep starting our lives over again until we either get it right, or die trying. Safely away from the general population.
