Do you think that @Phoenix had already made the decision to leave the US and this was why they released PhoenixD?

Or do you suspect they were just preparing for a potential negative regulatory shift and this felt like an opportune time? 🤔

I think they see the writing on the wall and a group of open source devs putting out a free app can't afford a legal fight with the US government, nor can they afford compliance.

“Free” is not the coreect term

gratis vs libre

he prolly meant that they dont do charity. they charge a lot of money for inbound and outgoing payments. a lot. so they have some resources

Is PhoenixD a wallet app?

Thx!

It’s their backend server software that lets you automatically run your own LSP if I understood their announcement correctly. Haven’t played with it yet but was excited about it.

It's not a backend LSP. It's a frontend client from what I understand and it still plugs into their ACINQ LSP and fee structure

Ah shit. I thought it was the other way around. I’ll look into it an confirm.

I really hope they do release a backend. Would be amazing. The secret sauce of channel splicing at scale would be amazing to run at home.

Messed up there are closing channels with 12 sat/vb... My close will take forever

Regardless, as an unlicenced money transmitting business, they had to do it.

If they think that this is how they will be classified then yeah.

That's what they are.
