My opinion is that they are extremist freedom fighters possibly following old-testament rules of "an eye for an eye" in a collective sense, and as such Hamas is trying to eventually kill as many Jews as Jews have killed of them, which means they think they have a hell of a lot more eyes to take. Even according to Jews, they have the law of an eye for an eye, and also their Noahide law of justice requires them to carry it out. Both sides are required to retaliate or else they are sinning. Due to asymmetric capability, Hamas' retaliations may take a couple of years, doesn't mean they are not retaliations. The idea that everything that Hamas does is evil because it is unprovoked, and Israel's response is righteous because it is the retaliation, can be seen in the exact opposite light if you are on the other side. Given that Hamas' actions are always a response too (the right view is both are responding), just a slow, pre-meditated, takes a long time to get their shit together kind of a response.
I do not support Hamas. Trying to honestly understand someone isn't the same thing as taking their side. Sun Tzu said we should know our enemy.

I don't quite see Hamas as you. I see Hamas as working for Israel the same way as ISIS works for Israel but they are never the less distinct. ISIS destabilizes Israel's enemies while Hamas engages in random acts of terrorism against Israel in order to justify continued treatment of Palestinians as animals.
Palestinians support Hamas because they are dumb animals. Even Norman Finkelstein - one of their biggest supporters - said they were stupid. For fuck's sake the median age of Palestinian is 18 - they are literally children.
Palestinians feel like everybody betrayed them except Hamas so they vote for Hamas. I am sure Hamas fighters risking their lives also believe they are doing the right thing just like ISIS fighters risking their lives believe they are doing the right thing. But all are guided from above by Israel.
Both Christian and Muslim religions are guided by the Jews as a whole as well. The Pope reads the script straight from the WEF. the Saudis are fairly close with USA which is in turn one with Israel even though Saudis have to pretend to oppose Israel but never actually do anything.
Saudis "Prove" they are real muslims by supporting ISIS but all ISIS does is attack other Muslims who actually support Palestine.

What they do to retaliate matters. This was not men killing men. This was men raping, torturing and murdering as many civilians as they could get their hands on. They paraded their dead bodies in the streets to the cheers of the crowd. They are proud of their inhumanity.
It's a bit like excusing the holocaust by saying the Jews were guilty too. There is no excuse for such actions. Once you commit this kind of atrocity you forfeit your cause.
