What’s the number one reason people who tried nostr are not on nostr in your opinion?
Discussion
Lack of diverse content and also difficulties finding that content. Getting into the conversations is difficult, especially as it feels like writing into the void initially 💜
Agree. Twitter still has much more diversity of content. People value that more than decentralisation. Also, Elon is pushing the narrative of a free Twitter / free speech on Twitter, which will never be possible due to it being centrally controlled. But it keeps people in for another round..
However, I think Nostr is still early and can also achieve the level of content diversity. And much more than Twitter can be built on Nostr.
Relays problems and people talking mostly about Bitcoin (information bubble)
Lack of Truth on daily basis
It's slow
It loses your content and follows
It's hard to search content
And then some
I've posted this some minutes ago and it still isn't transmited by releys.
You have to have enough knowledge and resource to run your relay or rent one
Number of users
They feel they have to rebuild their follower counts.
Their friends are not here, and the content generating accounts they follow elsewhere aren't here either.
It'd be incredible if someone created a service (?) that imports one's follow list from Twitter, creates a Nostr mirror for each of those accounts, and automatically follows them.
Shitty UX
for me nostr felt like i was finally coming home (I know no one has asked for this 😅)
Network effects of Twitter.
They’re used to being fed info by an algorithm and not engaging in conversations.
There may need to be a trending tab to lead them to what they want
No one interested in getting into flame wars with them.
I think it’s selling badly. In other words, no one in the masses of users cares about security, freedom of expression or censorship and much less #bitcoin
The playful and fun part is of high consumption and is not in #nostr yet.
Technical difficulty, key management, not interested/care about a censorship resistant protocol. Even if setting up a client an a wallet helps them through the first interactions… Truth is that they are ok with all legacy social media
The atmosphere is not suitable for the general public. Absurd wars between devs, lack of consensus between devs for basic things 🤷♂️
Many new users end up disenchanted after some days. We need to put our egos aside and build together. I'm starting to lose faith 😕
More #[1]‘s and less crappy-dev-ego-influencers.
Don't mind me too much, I've been a bit disappointed with what I see on nostr for a few weeks now.
Technical challenges & content diveristy/discoverability are probably tied.
(It was very difficult to make that a short reply😂 So. Many. Thoughts.)
Not enough immediate engagement on my accounts. Not enough people to follow. Indecision about which clients to use on mobile/web.
As Steve Balmer used to say:
"Content, content, content!"
