Is OP_CAT happening?

The covenants proposal was recently assigned BIP 347, and now it's up to the community to decide. Blockstreamer Kiara Bickers breaks down the pros and cons and attempts to answer the question on most Bitcoiners' minds: Is it safe?

👏👏👏👏

I sincerely hope not. Too many unnecessary changes too soon.

imo*

We dont need a fork. The surface of the current tooling has barely been scratched. Prove me wrong?

FROST literally JUST got implemented into a wallet for the first time. Taproot adoption among many (most?) widely used bitcoin services/products is minimal, if at all. Hedgehog is still a PoC. ARK has 1(?) wallet. Fedimint and Cashu are both very early stages. People need to chill tf out and build out what we got.

chaumian tokens are better custody. They don't improve self-custody.

They give more options. Again, we've barely scratched the surface of what those optoins are.

it was removed for good reason and there is absolutely no benefit to adding it back.

It was remover for a very specific reason that has been addressed in the proposal. You may still believe it should not be added however the original reason it was removed should not be one of them as it is a trivially addressed vulnerability.

Thanks for the write up.

Isn't even close to being needed right now

Hopefully not

Me looking for the value gain from op_cat versus the trouble a soft fork generates?

No

Great write up 🫡
