Starting to believe that the Lightning network as the one and only Bitcoin scaling solution

Was just a psyop to make bitcoiners accept custodians and cope better with the concept of trust

Yes, it works well for that 1% of users. But everyone else will have to trust custodians.

Could you try this if works and if is interesting? https://docs.spark.info/

Lightning's biggest hurdle: having a modern person keep a computer on and connected to the internet. I know, it's very rare for people to be able to literally have electricity and internet but, we have to try. 🤣🤣

I never came across this narative, that its the only solution. But the harsh reality is that most users don't care, normies will never be good at managing wallets, keys, etc. So custodial is the only way to go for now for most, until something comes along that is more foolproof for the average user... And TBH, for zaps on nostr, custodial is "ok", as long as there is sufficient educating and informing that people should not store their retirment bag in a custodial lightning wallet...

Which is a bankruptcy declaration of the Bitcoin community.

1. Explanations how to use Bitcoin non-custodially DOWN (an expected outcome for a chain that limits on-chain transaction capabilities)

2. Fiat in KYC ETF custodial services UP

HaVe wE wOn YeT?

It seems to me that lightning was oversold.

It definitely has its uses, and for those specific things it works really well (b2b), but the whole, "hyperbitcoinization will happen and people will never touch the main chain" narrative seems fucking stupid if lightning is to be the only scaling solution.

Liquid for small amounts

i can't see it was a psyop but was definitely oversold. it works well when it works, and when it doesn't people are quick to reeee. there's also some vested interests in saying "lightning bad, use my solution".

it's likely that most people are not able to operate a well connected operational node.

acinq's LSP model works well.

Ark is promising but idk about relying on an ASP so much.

People here rarely say use my random ***coin.

9 out of 10 times they say use Monero especifically

"Starting to believe" - Uh, you have been negative on Lightning for as long as I can remember. Half of your podcast episodes are you sympathizing with big blockers. Maybe your Nostr persona just started to believe this cause your X and podcast personas have been talking about how "Lightning doesn't work" for years.

Guess you started listening last year or something.

Been running a routing node also around 2021 and 2022. I was really hoping the tech would improve. I also hoped covenants would get activated and live up to the promise of opening thousands of channels in a single transaction.

Looks like March of 2024 was the first one i listened to, guest was Eric Voskuil.

I think you make mostly strawman arguments, at least on social media. I don't know who is supposedly saying that Lightning is the "one and only" scaling solution. It only "works well for 1% of users" is just plain nonsense. Maybe only 1% meet your Bitcoin Purity standard of completely self hosted Lightning infrastructure. A custodial solution with a small amount of spending Bitcoin is Lightning working for many more than 1% of users.

By the way, I just zapped you from my self hosted (not node in a box) Core Lightning node and I receive zaps with my self hosted BTCPay Server.
