Always wanting the new things will put you on seeking "happiness" mode all the time. You can be the happiest person on Earth if you can learn to appreciate what you have, and realize you don't need anything more.

This way, you can have low time preference, because you don't need that thing that much, so you can buy it, use it, do it, at a later time.

Happiness does not come from owning more, but realizing what are the least things we need.

Happiness is like every other emotion - it ebbs and flows, rises and falls like the tide.

Instead of chasing what is temporary, perhaps cultivating a sense of gratitude and aiming for a general sense of contentment is a more achievable aim?

You can have you happy days, sad days, great days and terrible, and if, in general, you are content, you'll find peace despite the variation in emotions.
