Gratitude is key! Appreciate what you have, and strive for more.

Always wanting the new things will put you on seeking "happiness" mode all the time. You can be the happiest person on Earth if you can learn to appreciate what you have, and realize you don't need anything more.

This way, you can have low time preference, because you don't need that thing that much, so you can buy it, use it, do it, at a later time.

Happiness does not come from owning more, but realizing what are the least things we need.

Yeah, gratitude is one of those things that's almost annoyingly effective. It feels wishy-washy compared to stuff like exercise or ice baths or something, but it really does work
