how do you sell privacy to people with a mindset of “they already have it all anyway, why care?”

they have all you already posted. But what about the future ?

This is how I sold my with on a start 9 because she couldn't counter that point

Let me know when you figure it out. My wife has pretty much gave in to shut me up. My parents still think the "nothing to hide" crap and my friends don't want to put the time in or think I'm crazy

You don’t you can only help those who want to help themselves

i’m between these two, but i guess at heart i’d love to be a good Samaritan

I’m following the ideology of letting people know facts, what they want to do with those facts is upto them.

Also tbh it’s good when people try to resist, they sometimes bring up good arguments, that make you think and make your understanding better

My latest angle, that seems to be working (at least theoretically), is that with AI coming online faster and faster, there could be a time in the near future where we wouldn’t know if a message from a loved one was actually from them at all.. strong cryptography and PGP/GPG keys are the solution.

With regard to our money and the need for privacy around our spending habits, explaining the part where one’s health pass is connected to one’s bank account, and you get a ‘high cholesterol’ reading and are then prevented from buying a burger.

Or you reach your ‘carbon limit’ and are prevented from buying a bus or plane ticket.

Or you miss a couple car payments due to financial hardship and get locked out of your EV..

Painting a simple picture of how lack of privacy in the age of AI can mess with anyone makes it more graphic ..

I know, I know, but boy do I need to be locked away from burgers.

Make it free

Very few care because they're blissfully unaware how spied on they truly are. I believe it'll only become more of a priority when they get burned which is sad. For those that think they have it all already then try some simple hacks on them and prove them otherwise 😂😂.....this might ruffle a few feathers though

I do care, but it does also feel impossible to do anything about it at times.

So, good question.

Another argument would be: what happens when there’s a data leak on their servers? Giving more info could potentially expose you even more. (It’s not an if, it’s a when)

for non-technical people, it’s gonna sound like mumbo-jumbo

I guess it depends where you live.

Where I live everybody knows about data leaks. A bank employee, from a well known one, leaked a file with clients data. It was on the news for at least a year.

Affected millions of customers. Giant class action lawsuit

Don’t let your previous self is conspire with your current self to screw over your future self.

Also, how do you sell privacy to people who’ve given up and don’t care about it? Like some of my friends I’ve tried to purple pill. “What’s the point of decentralized social media tho? We aren’t being censored actively and it’s probably just a den of racists”.

The ignorance frustrates me and I’m not sure how to best approach shutting that down.

Only the once’s who willing to see will see 👁️ If you care and spreading the positive vibe about why you care more will open up. Because they want to know why you are so passionated about this. Don’t try to convince people, try to be the example. There was for example a reason why you went to nostrasia. Follow your own path and more people want to know why you care. It all start from within🙏🧘‍♂️

Yeah, that’s what the road I’ve been trying to go down for them 🙏

I can’t explain it to you, but with my own actions and the way I’m heading, hopefully enough curiosity will be raised by my closed ones 💜

💜🫂 Follow your heart and good things will happen. 🤙 here some inspiration https://instagram.com/shihengyi.online?igshid=M2RkZGJiMzhjOQ==

On to the next or you could spend a few weekends tryna show them that they don’t have it all and actually need more

yeah, easier to move on, to the path of least resistence

That’s what I thought as well! 😂 It’s like trying to explain #Bitcoin to someone that says well the government will ban it 🙉

"Then you're already a slave. Have fun staying poor and chained. Eat the bugs and own nothing. ✌️"

It's about taking personal responsibility, which is surprisingly a hard sell nowadays. Just let them know where the road of convenience will lead them. Straight to hell.

I don't know anyone who says that.

I know plenty who don't know/care at all. They feel safe, protected, by things like KYC. They think that AML actually stops loundering (if it's a problem in the first place) and not taking away your freedom.

They don't care that your money is not yours.

They don't care that money is not money.
