first class relays is something I’m bullish on. I want a first class purple relay. This will be the first step towards a discord-like interface for relays inside damus. You can run your own community for your friends and have it completely private with auth. nostr:note1z79yjr225lchfadq572vlc4jejwwn5hr7mtxg9355mtrnghe4w0qwq5gx9

nice, damus’ variation will likely just be your own twitter-like community. It’s not really set it for a chatroom atm.

can you elaborate? are you envisioning setting a specific relay “context” and read/write within it? eg subreddit or discord server style?

community relays listed on the side menu, you click it and all posts/interactions are only sent to that relay. So you can jump in and out of places. Its different from the public-square mode where you blast everywhere like we have now

this is what I’ve envisioned and wanted for a long time. I’m excited to see if and how it plays out, and how relays evolve because of it. 🫡

we had a call last week about this because we were trying to figure out way for purple members to talk and give feedback in one place, etc. we have real incentives to execute on this now which is important for it to actually get done. Everyone on the team is super bullish on this.

How would you switch between the private relays and public ones? Presumably all your notes will be sent to all relays that you’re subscribed to.

It would be an explicit interaction. You click a relay, it would show only posts from that relay, and now all of your posts are scoped to that relay.

Right now when you click a relay in damus it just goes to the relay info screen. We want to change that to a first class relay view

Interesting idea, well right now purplerelay.com is by country and then all are kept in sync but are you suggesting to not keep each country in sync but just to sync to centrally? so if I wanted just jp.purplerelay.com I'd only get Japan and if I was on root purplerelay.com I'd get a global feed?

you mean outbox model, right? nip-65 and this REQUIRES nip-42 not to forget to mention ... wen nip-42 everyone?

or more exactly, the closed groups - i forget the NIP but they have a list they publish (public) that specifies where to read and write events to the group

this is something that i will most probably be working on in the future too, and the reason why i like to keep track of what you guys are doing so when i get to it i can make sure i'm doing it correctly and bring up issues as i encounter them

outbox model is about making the public square more decentralized, first class relays is pretty different and doesn’t require anything except auth. It’s just a ui/design thing.

Glad I don’t dm on there

the recent citadel dispatch episode was about something like this
