After not surfing for 15-20 years, and now getting back into it and teaching my kids, I’ve come to understand that parenthood is a lot like surfing.

95% percent of the time your paddling, chasing, go over the top, slamming into reefs, having people drop in on you, and struggling, but when you succeed, nothing beats the ride you get to take. That 5% is worth the 95% of struggles.

I got my oldest out the back this morning and she paddled into her first unbroken wave and was able to engage a rail and cut across the face by the end our session.

Life’s a fucking struggle. Embrace it.

Thanks. Things I was thinking about , as I dragged a 10 year old through the wash and out the back, and then to see her face beaming when she looked back at the end 💜🫂.
