after watching you guys talk nearly ceaselessly about money for 2 months, I'm going to go back to the fediverse.
Discussion
understandable, why not be on both?
every single time i come here it's all zap zap zap money money memes about money.
its like a cult of some sort, almost.
i'll pop in every so often but there really is no draw, or attraction, and the curiosity period is over.
Damn you missed the first few months
what were the first few months like? adoption dynamics follow the typical curve. everyone on their best behavior, and without solid direction orchestration or guidance, principles to aspire to - everyone's back to what they were doing before in short order. cracking that plasticity is difficult. what really amazes me is how people are goaded into being algorithmically controlled and conditioned and often (95%+) have no idea it's even happened. [insert names of major social networks here.] What bothers me about the platform fundamentally though, is it ties in heavily with the goal of uniquely ID'ing the content of social publishing "posts." It's much easier to be "anonymous" if there isn't a single point of origination. With all internet traffic running through darpa since day one, and cloudflare proxying most of the web at this point, well - the future is looking mighty strange, and of course, this was all on the roadmap the whole time - just as things iterate the names of the players change, to of course keep the hands clean. anyway.. hoping you have a good day.
Yep. All anyone here cares about is money. The few posts that aren't about money are mostly from the Mostr bridge.
I think Nostr would do a lot better with a stronger sense of communities instead of the giant, faceless borg that it is currently. Right now, one relay is basically the same as every other relay. Maybe that's just something that will improve over time.
Clients could push the ball forward a little by making it more prominent which relay(s) a given post came from. Maybe more relays would benefit from whitelisting pubkeys or identities instead of blindly forwarding everything, etc.
this is very chill...(interesting ideas.) btw remind me your fedi handle ? i just sent you an inqury from the instance im on (mine) so yeah please reply there.
I deleted my fedi instance a little while back. I'm considering making a new one, since Nostr really isn't working out all that well for me overall. Needs more time to bake.
I wanted to get involved with developing things for it, but the community is turning out to be a lot more soy than I had hoped--good for them, just not really the kind of freedom activists I thought they might be at first. They want money first and foremost, and principles of freedom are secondary at best.

just actually saw this, as it didnt show in iris OR nostrgram. in more-speech yes,
so replying:
>what was your instance called?
> yeah. thats what i was seeing too but didnt' want to speak to it. agreed though. there's no vision here, that i can see. just a giant experiment.. with typical human behavioral dynamics.
if you want back on fedi you can shoot me an email and i'll tell you where to go from there.

Maxis have no chill man lol long gone are the days of me trying to convert people. I’m just here to give and have a good time. All about vibing. But I respect your choice. 🫡🤝🤘🏼🫂
🎯
:) there's almost nothing harder than converting human behavior. the second hardest thing is humbling and changing oneself. :)
Indeed well spoken facts! May one day NFT’s or other tokens, coins along with bitcorn make us wealthy. What ever you are into I’m no one to judge or tell you what to spend your hard earned money on.
✌️
I’m new here so I can’t tell if you’re serious or not 😅
+1
i don't like to waste people's time, so yeah I'm serious. I'll come every now and again but I am likely going to have to dramatically reduce how many people I'm following, based on how much they only talk about bitcoin. also, since you're new- welcome! what kinda stuff are you passionate about in this life ?
I feel you. When I first joined a few days ago I was trying to figure out where to find the “regular” discourse. I don’t even have enough bitcoin to talk about it all day lol 😅
I love music, food, travel, and emerging tech! Very big on social media, cultural exploration, and connecting with people in various forms.
How about yourself?
I've always been a fan of people and the arts... I spent 34 years of my life learning to take photos... :D Playing musical instruments, drawing things, writing in various forms (short stories, poetry, etc..) blogging the last 20 years on and off, last year full time (2800 articles published), umm... I've been painting here and there since 2006.... love to cook, travel, walk around, explore stuff, have conversations with people that have substance to them, and I've always been an early social media adopter... Right now I'm running a fediverse instance (well 2 actually).
Omg I can’t wait to do anything creative for 3+ decades, that’s incredible. Would love to see any of the above!
What is fediverse?
And will you be attending #Nostrasia unconference in November?
what i mean is i started at an early age :) the fediverse is about 12 million or so of people talking all in one spot collectively, but are in actuality on about 22,000 different servers, that "federate" or share posts with eachother. if i didnt know better, nostr copied the concept somewhat. but also irc predates both nostr and fediverse by 20+ years and already did that exact same thing.
i dont know , if its in asia i will be here on the westcoast of california unless someone pays for my ticket and vaccination isn't a requirement of international travel, nor PCR tests... :D otherwise, sounds interesting.
What if they pay you to stay?
if people were more willing to help pay for the articles I already write, that would actually be helpful. In the past year I wrote 2800 articles... have an archive of over 3000 videos, lotta pdf's etc.
I'm not sure this kind of work can be successful without being on substack rn. I'm not saying it should be that way, but it sure seems like it's the only way to make decent money off any independent writing.
https://writehere.is/nwo (i have pinned to the top: want to help these efforts and contribute to the author?) but i hear you. you almost have to force people to get on a subscription plan otherwise they forget and take advantage of people working hard and just want it free...
on that wise, i subscribed to a substak once, and let the gal have the subscritpion for 2 years before cancelling it, even though i didnt give a sh** about what she was writing..
See, now you just need to find people to accidentally subscribe to your substack forever.
Your welcome to stay and contribute posts for topics that interest you. It will help bring more people with similar interests.
Another issue could just be it’s a littler harder to find and discover people to follow that match what you value. Tools are coming to help that.
