Depends on your financial situation. If you're not very poor, it's best to use a hardware hot wallet via boltz.exchange for outgoing zaps, and not accept incoming zaps, to avoid promoting Lightning

My experience of linking a wallet to nostr was a little more complicated than just setting up a non-custodial wallet.

It seems that it needs to be a custodial lightning wallet that is NWC-compatible, and you need to have inbound/outbound liquidity.

It sounds technical already, but I'm not especially technically-minded, and was still able to get it set up after a few false starts and research and retries.

I got mine set up through Rizful (dotcom), but this is probably NOT the best, it's just the first one I came across that seemed doable for me, and I got it done.

I've heard quite a few people mention Alby and AlbyHub, but I don't know if that's harder or easier than Rizful. I hope this helps!

Primal in iOS or Android? On iOS you don't have many options, besides the internal wallet. NWC is not supported on iOS because of Apple that does not allow external wallets for zapping.

Do they have an activation email now? In the beginning there was no return email / validation.

Drop Primal. You’ll be better off using Damus, Nostur or Amethyst all of those have better non-kyc ways to do zaps anyway.
