Having to ask for permission is the default. Being deplatformed is as commonplace as getting a time-out for posting something "wrong". It is expected. It is normal.
People aren't even aware that there is, could be, should be another way. They don't even entertain the possibility that THEY THEMSELVES SHOULD HAVE THE POWER TO SPEAK. To say whatever. To think whatever. To spend money on whatever.
Daddy Elon will fix free speech. Politician XY will fix the economy. Politician Y will fix social issue Z.
We lost freedom, because we lost responsibility. We want the next overlord to fix our problems. The next platform to fix all the issues that the current platform has. The next news cycle to wash our neurons clean of the last cycle; the next dopamine hit.
Most people can't even entertain the possibility of a world without rulers. They aren't ready for the responsibility that world entails.

The truth is some people don't want a world without rulers. Many people are sheep and don't want the responsibility true freedom requires. But as I realized from reading Karl Ludwig von Haller (@note1x8lxmn70uda9qd847ajetclz5esswsg0asgfkxg66se8ymnwp22shk5a0y) there are some leaders who just arise naturally and people follow them voluntarily, and I think that's fine, so long as it's voluntary, and not imposed or maintained through force or fraud.

Even Nostr is still widely misunderstood. People assume you can build stuff "on Nostr" as you would build a "dapp" (whatever that means) "on Ethereum".
Platforms - of which Ethereum and the like are the culmination - are a mind virus that skews your whole world view.
A "dapp" cannot logically be built "on a platform". It has to be a stand-alone app that you can self-host and which *uses* open protocols, such as Bitcoin and Nostr to interact with other apps.
