1) This is beyond bullshit, this is straight up harmful.

2) You can't just... self-sacrifice your way out of depression. So many reasons, but anecdotally: I "help" people all day, and only the people who show gratitude in return fill my emotional tank. "Helping" doesn't automatically give you Feel Good, Moral Superiority cachet. If people are ungrateful wretches, and many are, trying to give and give more and more of yourself leads to burnout and worse depression! Martyrdom is not the opposite of or the antidote to depression. You know what is, if we insist on a one-size-fits-all cure? Connection.
