Ok, I’m new to this network but I’m trying to follow people and on my profile it still says “following 2”. I’m following 7 people… I’m using Primal on iOS. Is it something wrong form my side or is some kind of bug? #asknostr

That's what I see here on Amethyst. I would assume this is a Primal cache issue and it will be resolved eventually.
I'll also say that Nostr comes alive when you follow hundreds or even 1,000 profiles. User and content discovery could be better here, so we have to put in the work to be social and be engaging ourselves.

It's certainly true that amethyst is gradually pulling away from the competition in the way it works.
That's not necessarily a good thing either. It means almost everyone will start using the same client and that's a point of weakness for #nostr.
It's time the competition pulled their finger out and caught up a bit.
It takes a while for it to load that's all. Especially if your relays are connecting back up. Also there's no algorithm to push things to you so you gotta use hashtags and go out there to find the content you need. It's way different that usual social media
You are probably used to an algorithm showing you stuff you want (or don't want) to see. Here you have to follow people you like if you want a better experience. So I'd recommend having a "follow bias" and then you can unfollow later if you prefer not to see their notes. Otherwise your feed will look dead.

The relays are not very accurate with follower counts. Most people have been conditioned to focus on that - here we are not really focused on how many followers we have. we just engaged in conversations. However, if you want a more accurate count. I think you can try Nostr.Band
I was mostly worried that in trying to follow people but it doesn’t work. I see now it shows how many people I’m following. It was not because I want to have more followers, I wasn’t sure if the follow button was working because my profile said a lower number than the number of profiles I was following. Thanks for the explanation.
