Except to acheive this privacy properly, the vast majority of people wil never take the steps to do so, whether just not wanting to or not being able to. Lightning is the most user un-friendly thing I have ever come across.

False, any Lightning sending is totally private with no additional steps and receiving is totally private with bolt12 and in Zeus also with bolt11 if you simply check the wrapped invoices option.

You have to look at these things from the perspective of someone who's technical know-how ends at using their gmail acct. Until the tech illiterate can do it, does it really matter if it can only be done privately by the tech-saavy?
