Apparently in America some people won’t talk to other people if they have the wrong phone and that these phone snobs can tell by the messages?
Please could someone in the know explain this weird social custom to me?

Well they won't talk to people based off political party, vaccination status, religious beliefs, color of skin etc. So that wouldn't surprise me. Especially with as consumer driven and shallow as we have become as a nation
I listened to a brilliant podcast with Balaji who compared Americans to the Sunni and the Shiite Muslim sects who apparently also cannot stand each other and argue over almost everything and anything.
I suppose that if you can get people to fight amongst themselves you can merrily get away with anything while they’re distracted.

You can tell when someone's not using iMessage or Google messages because the likes had shit don't work.
I go a step further and sending to a group SMS doesn't even work for me 😂

I don't really know what people use. I've seen Discord, iMessage, Whatsapp, Facebook. Barely any Signal, but that's what I prefer. My family is on Whatsapp.
I wish I could just cancel my phone plan and go silent.link only.
Practically everyone here uses WhatsApp, even businesses etc it’s so 🤮🤮 I also use Signal but not everyone even knows what it is - sigh.
