My old QNAP NAS device died on me and corrupted the harddrives in the process. As a result, the new QNAP device I've bought won't load the these drives.
A data recovery company is now working on my drives, and their services cost 3x the new device price.
Muh personal cloud. Muh sovereignty.
Oh my gosh!! This is terrifying 😖
Any idea what led to the device corrupting the disks?

Power outages. Even though I had a UPS.
That’s absolutely wild. Did you leave it powered on 24/7?
Yes, of course, that's what it's for.
For sure! Just personally, I only keep data online 24/7 that I have backed up in 3 places, or is not mission critical
