I posed the following question on X:

“If you are a Bitcoiner and you’re still not on #Nostr, what are you waiting for??

It’s a free & open protocol for speech, like #Bitcoin  is a free & open protocol for money.

You need *both* to free yourself.”

The responses I got are indicative of how early we are, and also how the *first* experience someone has with #Nostr is so important. You can see that a lot of folks tried it and got frustrated (likely a year or so ago) and haven’t come back since. Their initial impression is still cemented in their mind, and they have no idea how much the ecosystem has improved in the last year.

The first touchpoint someone has is incredibly important, because like it or not, people DO just books by their covers.

Just some food for thought.

“NY doesn’t allow us”

Are they confused about some regulation or?

Probably referring to lightning/zaps tbh

This lot must have merrily jumped on to the BlueSky bandwagon. I dunno why they keep calling it decentralized when it’s federated at best

Ici non plus c'est pas une décentralisation complète et puis ras le bol de faire des comparaisons avec mastadon, X, Bluesky voire Treads..

The internet has security issues Daniel

Perhaps we don’t want them here. That’s quite a lot of close minded laziness I’m reading.

"NY doesn't allow us" made me laugh out loud

kind of surprised at responses from some specific accounts

Enlightening on several points.

Objectivement...

But this place isn’t a book. It’s more like a play set… constantly changing and in flux.

The user must take some self-accountability to creating the experience they want.

Yeah, I don't really see anything of value lost in those screenshots. Just intellectual laziness.

Nostr isn't hard. Training your brain to work on its own again is what's hard.

I was one of these people until recently. I played with Damus and Coracle about 9 months ago and found the interface slow and frequently non-functional. Primal was the difference that made the difference, at least for me.

I am thinking that perhaps Dick Cuckerson needs to do a story on #nostr

funny answers😂

Exactly

yessss !!! I'm free 🙌

Its hard to see and not get overly frustrated. If only you could just shake someones shoulders and yell “listen to us!” and it worked 😂😂

But like you said, its all about the touch points. Same with Bitcoin, it just takes either hearing about it or reacting with 2-4 times and hopefully something different in your brain starts clicking.

I like to always try and spend some time in the introductions every few days. Sure, its serves my agenda to introduce myself to people coming on. But I also try to make it a really positive experience for them, and give them some links to info and suggestions on how to interact with Nostr. At the end of the day, its SO FUCKING IMPORTANT for more and more people to become exposed to more and more stuff like this. But what you mentioned is WHY i go about things the way i do with those posts. Because its not JUST about getting people here. They NEED to have a good experience, otherwise none of it matters and people won’t stick around or come back 🤷‍♂️

This is the way

Same reason people don't use bitcoin. They trust and prefer the centralized service for convenience.

UX and interoperable defacto protocols are key for the mass adoption

My most important issue was knowing who to follow.

Wow. If you just read the screenshots without your post it's what I'd imagine the conversations around bitcoin were like a few years ago (damn maybe even today).
