Just rewatched "Gone Girl" recently... An example of the bottom aesthetic in spades.
Conversely, there's the "90s coffee shop"... Brick walls, art, bric-a-brac everywhere... Much warmer colors, fewer flat surfaces and clean lines.
Warmer colors and natural materials add to the imagination. Kids specifically need it the most to develop their brains
One feels like a home. The other feels like a heavily sanitized spaceship.

My old boss' wife, years ago, considered herself a "home designer". All she'd do is turn everything white...
Every time I see a bland and boring neutral white house, I think of her and how much I disliked her.
It's a shame. We need to bring color back
