It was an acronym for Magic The Gathering Online Exchange. They sold game cards and items and crap before they added #Bitcoin. It was only much later that people started referring to it as “Mount Gox” which was just a common misreading of the “Mt”

It's one of those things, you stick to the correct way to say it, and many people will miss it. You dumb it down, and it'll nag at you xD
