Signal eats my battery like a fat kid eats cake. It makes Amethyst look downright efficient. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?
I use Android BTW.

Hmm that's weird, I use both apps but I find Amethyst to be a much bigger drain...
TBH I really hope there's an update soon. The app hasn't changed since I joined Nostr.... still has a bunch of weird quirks.
Over a weeks time frame.

How are notifications being handled?
I'm running it on stock Android, and it doesn't recognize Google Play services, so it's running a background service. I've read several bugs in the GitHub indicating this has been a problem for years, with no solution. Always marked as wontfix 🤦♂️
If it's using Websockets it will hammer the battery as you say as it's running at all times. i wonder why it's not using FCM though? 🤔 Seems odd.
I know on Graphene if you install Signal before installing Google Play Services it defaults to Websockets. If you want to use FCM you must first install Google Play then install Signal.
If you have to use Websockets might be worth trying Molly FOSS to see if it's not as bad as Signal running unrestricted battery.
No such problem with Signal on nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyqpq235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ks3f750r on a Pixel 9 Pro.
It's shit on my pixel 8 pro stock, and my 6a graphene. The specific bug has many issues listed on the GitHub, but no solutions, and a lot marked wontfix. I went from easy all day battery to just a few hours due to signal. Sad because it seems good otherwise.
Try Molly.
I'll check it out, thanks!
Did you allow unlimited battery use on backgroud by any chance? It's not necessary.
You may try to remove permissions like sensors, nearby devices, location ... to see if it makes any difference.
Also if things get wierd, it's worth nothing to try to delete caches, then data, then reinstall. It sometimes help.
Yeah I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times. Trying Molly now. Hopefully it's better.
Use Simplex
Delete centralised platforms
Will simplex connect to my signal contacts?
Nah - you'll have to try connect them on simplex.
It'll take a while but the people who you care about will make the shift.
Funny story, they tried simplex and hated it 😂
It's improved a lot since a few years ago.
I've got a few contacts that say I'm the only 1 they have on simplex. They say this to me on Simplex as they bitch about having to use it to contact me. 🤣
Escaping Telegram to move to Signal was one of dumbest moves I've seen.
I'm hopeful of white noise but I'm bullish on Simplex.
We were using simplex 6 days ago, but switched to signal due to group preferences.
