This op return drama has been really bizarre. First they mishandle opposing views, then call the community attackers then people say now is the time to support core.. can no one read the room at all?

Seems to me like the room is being read perfectly.

People that are actually spammers are manipulating people who don’t understand code… pretending to be opposed to spammers…

Wild esp when some of us KNOW those exact people are the actual spammers

It’s dishonest. It’s an attack on Bitcoin. And it’s an attack on builders.

All while they cosplay and virtue signal.

The PR was never merged, it was submitted in an optionable configurable way, and we have a process for contesting those things.

I’m glad this all happened (as much as I wanted to avoid the experience) because I think we all walk away from this knowing exactly who is a grifter.

And that has been a long time coming. 🗣️

The people pretending to be opposed to spammers are the actual spammers

They’ve been shoving shit into bitcoin at a discount, abusing the current set up.

They are directly impacted by this as it makes the cost of spamming go up for them.

That’s the truth.

Other projects outside of bitcoin have used value based mechanisms for combatting spam FOR YEARS

this is well known in the developer community

Currently people use witness data at a discount

The way to combat spam is make it costly

The problem with the PR as is is that it introduces extreme hardware constraints

So you have an entire community of people (aside from projects like libbitcoin) ignoring the real existential crisis, layering the conversation with dense technical word salad, all while ignoring where real bloat comes from at a discount

Forcing people to use the op_return makes it costly to spam

Bitcoin is a value based system and value based systems depend on hard coded value mechanisms to defend the network

Things like Standardness (policy) were created as short term mechanisms to reduce load until we have better solutions

Of course that depends on what you define as spam

Every transaction that hits the chain is a “valid transaction” technically speaking

But personally speaking IMO most things that aren’t transactional data are attempts at bloating the UTXO set

Making constraints on people who build hardware

I’m a hardware girl I’ve been a hardware girl my whole life

Hardware is my concern and software needs to be compatible

Also I’m not a developer and never claimed to be one. I do my best to understand technical information as it is presented to me - it’s my job a lot of times to interpret it to laymen terms. And so far I haven’t seen any definitive arguments. Just people calling people stupid. Which in itself is stupid.
