As an experiment, I've been limiting my social media time to no more than 15 minutes total a day (Nostr included) using Apple's screen time for about a two weeks now, and I feel like my brain is already working differently.

I think my next experiment is going to be to go all of next Sunday without my phone in my possession at all. The fact that AI is about to mess everything up has me suddenly caring a lot about "human" things, and knowing and experiencing what that means.
It works. Try limiting all usage to just your laptop.
After that you can come out and help me build a new chicken coop

Have you considered something like the punkt MP02?
I wish it had a full QWERTY keyboard, but that’s close to something I’ve been wanting lately. Phone calls and SMS only, minimal features on top of that.
Maybe this trend catches on?! 📈Almost like a historical civilization chasing the short term high of booze only to end up over indulging themselves into a drunken society and only after feeling the longer term side effects of over consumption realize that moderate term usage of the BoozeAI is the only narrow opportunity for a happy medium/quality of life enhancement.
*insert cheat food, lazy days or some temporarily satisfying yet long term degrading vice if booze doesn’t personally analogize
I wouldn’t be surprised to see this play out but yea with AI we’re still far away from most appreciating some of the negative consequences and setting personal discipline standards for ourselves
I’d be having withdrawl symptoms…
The main thing I learned, is as much as I convinced myself otherwise, I cared too much about what people think about me. Disengaging made it a lot easier not to care. Which was a liberating feeling.
I had to limit Twitter severely; it fucks with your perspective.
love this - cutting back on all social media and binge reading for a year made a huge diff to how my brain worked. I think it impacts your front part of the brain (the thinking part) and the back part (the emotional part)

People with wives and children should spend less time on social software and spend more time with their children and wives.
Spending more time with your family is more valuable than playing social software.
In fact, social software is used by single people and orphans to pass the time.
This is the way.
I don’t hate that, but I also think it depends on what you’re doing
If I spent an hour on Twitter every day I’d be brain dead
If I spent an hour reading intelligent articles in Substack or learning something new about Bitcoin, that would be time well spent and improve my brain function… I think! Haha
But I think it’s great you’re doing that! We all need to touch grass more often
I like that idea. With some of the platforms I use I've taken to logging out after every use, and then logging back in later requires my Yubikey for 2FA. This bit of effort cost is generally enough to prevent me from mindlessly checking.
