I don’t even notice I’m doing it most of the time, but I run marshmallow tests on my kids all day long.

Conditioning them to think long term and delay gratification.

This unconscious conditioning will run in the background and be a foundational building block for their future.

When they meet a fork in the road they will choose the longer/harder path.

I will underwrite the journey by providing resources and a safety net.

They will have an invisible hand guiding them and softening the harder/longer path.

Even if I’m dead at that point, my voice will run in the background providing gentle guidance and reassurance that they are on the right path.

This is the real inter-generational wealth.

The sats they will receive are merely icing on the cake.

I try to do the same

This is parenting done right 👍

This is spot on. Remember though, no break from austerity will inevitably lead to rebellion.

Oh totally. I’m not the authoritarian at home, that’s my wife lol I’m more of the libertarian voice encouraging them to question everything and break rules.

Beautiful

Powerful. Thanksb

I got to thinking about this the other day. To take this to the next level you don't eat either of the marshmallows but hodl them until the end of the day. When there are no more marshmallows to be had then you can trade them for anything that you want.

The hardest part is watching them eat the marshmallow & knowing that you'll have to play the hard arse again.

“This is the real inter-generational wealth”. You nailed this imho.

In my experience kids are always listening and watching, even when you think they are not.
