Bitch@ is like a private messaging app thingum using Bluetooth as it's connection, ire no internet, mobile reception needed.

Afaik

so how does bluetooth work?

Oh no no, I don't know the technical answer to that. It's like how does a remote control work. I also don't know. It's a short distance thing, um, yeah. Waves.

ok so you can only chat with people within your wavelength? how short is short distance?

I think it's like 300m or something. But I don't know. If you are 300m from someone and theres a chain further and further out, I believe you are connected(?) maybe

Apparently it's similar to firechat which was used in the Hong Kong protests when the internet was down.

sounds pretty cool

I'm not the right person to answer this lol

it’s interesting why they did not add LoRa (long-range) devices support from the start. I have a Meshtastics installed on my Lilygo T3, and can reach nodes 30kms away. Maybe they will add it later on, but until then, #bitchat seems useless (at least for me).

There's an explanation in this note πŸ‘‡

thank you!

For any small town across the planet with no internet access it seems a cool and awesome solution, not a novelty though...

But... for any person living in an area with normal internet access it is not an interesting nor a safe option, Bluetooth is well known for being vulnerable and therefore having your Bluetooth open 24/7 to be part of that mesh network opens your device to an unnecessary vector of attack...

For those who need it, awesome, for most with internet access, IMO, not ideal, the price / reward radio doesn't add up.

given that only about 30% of people in africa and asia (excluding high-income countries) have access to reliable, affordable wifi/data this seems like it could be a great tool.
