IQ correlates quite well to overall life success. Obviously, that correlation won't be as good if the tests become a target that people intensively practice for. But that's true of any measure.

IQ being unreliable is basically an anti-scientific meme the left has become enamored with because IQ tests show very clearly that we're not all equal.

They're not worthless but I guess it depends on what you're rmtrying to measure. Treating the result as a measure of innate ability that can't change is wrong I think.

A lot of it is a function of how much time a person has been trained in certain kind of abstract reasoning, which for the majority is a proxy for how much (not completely dysfunctional) education have you received.

(Not talking about super high IQ scores, just 'this person is normally intelligent' scores)

People who tolerate being trained in abstract reasoning are the people with high IQ... No amount of training is going to make dumb people understand abstract thinking. People have different intellectual capacities. That's just the ugly reality.

True, but not everyone even gets the chance to be educated/trained.

...which is an important use-case for IQ tests: figuring out raw intelligence, before training.

But how could you do that at age 12+ in a country with a highly functioning education system?

Have you ever taken an IQ test? They're designed to test reasoning irrespective of education.

Oh yes. They are intended to, and I'm not claiming they're useless. I used the word 'dodgy' intentionally. I'm just claiming they'll naturally be biased by formal education, though they try not to be.

And?

This whole conversation is in the context of immigration. The people that you say IQ tests have a bias against – smart but uneducated people – shouldn't be allowed into Canada in the first place because they fail to meet the educational requirements for immigration!

What IQ tests will do is provide a secondary defense to educational transcript fraud. They check if someone actually is intelligent enough to be an improvement to the Canadian population.

Of course, IQ tests will inevitably say that hardly any people from many minorities should be allowed onto Canada... Which is exactly why there's so much opposition to IQ.

"IQ tests as a secondary defense to educational transcript fraud". Sure, I guess that works. Might not be the best way to check, but used in that way it's better than many other options. What really matters is how the test are organized and conducted.

(Though it does depend on what the immigrant is claiming to be qualified in - if, as some countries like Australia has done in the past, you are taking in immigrants qualified in service oriented fields, then IQ is maybe not the point.)

Indeed corruption in educational qualifications outside of the "western world" (speaking incredibly vaguely) is a huge problem (and unlike most westerners I speak from direct experience).

I'm not sure exactly. But I was in the gifted program in Ontario when I was a kid; admission is in part based on an IQ test. So look up the 1995-era standards and I must have done better than that. 😂

IQ correlates to overall success - unless a high IQ individual is surrounded by short sighted,

fiat/power motivated, morons in leadership.

Overall success (long game) is still likely, however having to constantly dumb down intelligence to adapt to power constructs throttles and delays innovation and is like playing a game of telephone with 3 year olds.

Seems like those with high intelligence level are not just concerned not just with their own overall success, but the success of humanity in its many expressions of culture and sovereignty.

My grandfather was an immigrant, Mensa scholar, and graduated college at 14… I will never perform on an IQ test. Using an IQ test as an immigration assessment tool seems like a cloaked effort to prey on political emotions while creating arbitrary policies that are easily corrupted and manipulated towards the creation of digital surveillance and a technocratic control grid (CBDC:Social

Credit etc).

A lot of idiots can pass tests and many extremely wise human beings live in extreme poverty without access to education or resources.

But ya generally less dumb people

Better. Perhaps we should focus on the inside/out
