So it sounds like Bukele is killing bitcoin legal tender status to take 1.3bn from the IMF. Once again, can someone remind me why all the hype men surrounding the Volcano bonds failed to deliver? nostr:npub1excellx58e497gan6fcsdnseujkjm7ym5yp3m4rp0ud4j8ss39js2pn72a

What if he apes into BTC with it all? 🤞
Same thought. He makes a meaningless concession with the IMF and makes his country dramatically richer, pays off the loan in two years and owes them nothing.
I don't trust politicians and I haven't read the article yet (paywall), but there are some potential good angles here.
Damn, really?
Or uses the money for infrastructure?
This is what I found "Under the terms of“the agreement being finalised with the Washington-based fund, El Salvador would drop a legal requirement for businesses to accept bitcoin as payment, making it voluntary to do so."

I'm reserving judgement on Bukele before i hear his side.
source?
Sad and people renounced their countries citizenship to live there.
The difference for the society would be minimal if the only change is "accepting Bitcoin now happens voluntarily". So far there have been no punishments for not accepting it anyway, at least that's what I've heard...
i'm not opposed to this
Personally, this was the only part of the Bitcoin law there that I disliked.
The state should not be in the business of telling entities and individuals which denominators they must use for trade.
