Wait what? There was accountability and free press before? 😂

This is beyond fucked

What exactly was the new policy?

Effectively wanted them to agree to never publishing or using leaked classified information or encouraging people to leak information. They also didn't want you cross checking stories with sources protected on background. They only want the official narrative published.

Hitler

⚡️🇺🇸 UPDATE - Dozens of reporters from nearly all major news agencies cleared out their offices today at the Pentagon, before turning in their press badges together at 4:00pm, after every news outlet beside one, refused to sign a “pledge” Tuesday from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth agreeing to new rules and restrictions imposed on the Pentagon Press Corps.

🤣 “Confiscated”… or they could have just said “revoked”, but no, “confiscated” makes it sound like Hegseth bound and gagged them forever. No, you can’t roam the halls of the Pentagon barging in on classified meetings whenever you want.

It’s like the old 90’s SNL skit where the Arab reporters in the back of the White House briefing room keep trying to determine exactly when and where the US will attack Iraq. Maybe you don’t agree with the ruling government’s policies, but the 1st Amendment is about restricting government overreach to regulate and stifle the press, not about giving the press the ability to do and say and go whatever and wherever they damn well please. There are such things as privacy laws and anti-defamation laws because the press overreaches sometimes too.
