For 500s in a very tight panel, yes.
That’s fair, probably not enough room for the correct bend radius. I still would have liked to see a bit less bare copper at the terminals; very easy for that stuff to short circuit over time. Next time just trim a bit less of the jacket off and shove it down a bit more so the jacket basically butts up against the terminal.
I smell what you're stepping in. The arcing issue i beg to differ, for the factories I've worked in where half an inch or more is exposed, on terminations that i have been around for 40+ years, I'm given to believe what's here is minimal risk. The bolts wouldn't allow me to land any deeper tho I do have the same note often so fair.
That said, i recently heard of two linemen who basically got vaporized while doing everything by the book. No cause was ever found. Modern electrical theory is indeed still theory.

I guess you mean by the “slight roundabout way” — yes to some degree we all suffer the same.
Considering what a quarter of the world's population is displaced by war? How many got killed in them? How many died from the jabs? How many have died from toxic food? How many from medications that don't solve any problems? Famine from forced mismanagement. Disease from poor decisions. In the long arc of time, I'd wager more people have died at the hands of government than haven't.
I can’t imagine the frustration, I’m sure the restart would take quite a different path.
