Ive always dreamed of a job where I do nothing all day and work from home.

My employer (corporation) has become so big my job has become exactly that. Doing nothing and filling out a make belief time sheet.

It has been the worse thing for my mental health ever.

Fostering more laziness and my skills are deteriorating.

I know I might regret it when this finally ends and im forced to work a normal job again or start my own business, but it just doesnt feel right.

No meaning, no contribution, no helping customers.

It seems unreal, fake, like the holodeck...

I would take a paycut for a job that still gives me the flexibility I have now but also leaves me feeling like I helped someone or some thing even at the end of the day.

Sunday night anxiety about Monday morning.

People really do have a need to feel useful, most humans feel this way from time to time. Hope you figure things out, also you are very valued here on Nostr fren . 🐶🫂

“Without a purpose, life is motion without meaning, activity without direction and events without reason. Without a purpose life is trivial, petty, and pointless.”

― Rick Warren

So true

🫂 do your part

Start a business 🧑‍💼 the sooner the better . Then employ me 😀

I am in the same position, can't you spend time working on your own hobbies? Work on your fitness routine, home improvements, shit posting on nostr, side hustle, reading interests, TV, or enjoying nature if you get spare time?

yes I do a combination of that and should be doing more fitness. I can't say im not at fault anywhere here. I need to diversify my hobbies. Cant all just be tech.

Winter time is tough in Canada. S..A.D. kicks in mid november usually and health goes down the drain for the next 6 months.

Moved from a big city to a small town of 3000

no local friends yet after 5 years.

kindof living the hermit life in my cryptocave

Nice cave. Man it's tough in Canada with that winter, I don't know how you guys do it.

Thank you! Only people on nostr and bitcoiners appreciate it LOL!

The older I get the worse it gets!

The cave helps me cope as its my happy place.

During the summer im in the garden all day, barely spend anytime indoors.

Vitamin D supplements lol

Hugs 🫂 truly. BTDT. If it helps at all: planning my life in stages and chunks allowed me to focus best. Universe will still toss uppercuts but it’s easier to get back on track. Wishing you hope, relaxation & peace. Truly.

Thank you all for your comments.

Just because I talk back to them doesnt mean I dont appreciate them!

You guys are the best and have brightened my mood by providing that sense of virtual family that does not really exist anywhere else on the interent.

Real names and faces are for the fakes.

The problem in fiat world is that trying to help people with good service requires licences and fees and registrations pushing up the costs leaving you unable to give them good service at good cost. I always end up impoverishing myself and my family when I run a business because helping people and providing excellent service takes precedent above profits.

On a bitcoin standard my way of serving customers and doing business would work. On a fiat standard I can only help corporations who can afford my service because they get cheap credit. They want to pay me because they can write my services off as a cost to get a tax cut. No one is helped and no one feels satisfaction. They paid me because insurance companies force them to for better premiums and what not.

Now the average mom and pop are priced out of the market because I have to comply with industry standards. I worked my ass off neglecting my wife and kids paying all my profits into rents and utilities and we would barely afford food without my wife doing all types of creative odd jobs just for us to get by.

We chucked everything. Moved to the country side and now we work for ourselves from a home where we are not paying rent, no utility bills. We spend good quality family time and we garden and keep chickens drinking well water.

We come by with less but we are healthier and happier. I even carry drinking water into the house. I lost weight and became more toned.

Bitcoin makes all this possible because we can plan and hope with less. Our savings are more than well off business men because they are all thick in debt. Most wealthy people I know have their wealth tied up in real estate. They are trapped while I am free. I consider myself blessed.

With freedom comes much self-accountabikity and responsibility, and a lot of people aren't prepared for any of that. But to their credit, it's very hard to untangle oneself from the system, and you put it well that anyone can, if they try. That's the life, right there. And what's weird is that it's how a lot of our ancestors lived hundreds of years ago, but back then it was normal and not looked on as extremist or borderline criminal, like it is today (at least, by the establishment and its apologists).

🎉

Similar here. Moved from the city to the country, years ago work from home, bought a house with bitcoin, no debt.

Everything is fine except the ridiculous job I do nothuf at which pays me well.

In the summer time I keep myself busy in the garden outdoors. I have an awesome mancave here in the basement too but November to April I get down.

Snow, clouds, cold, nothing to do at work.

Depression is a monster. I pray that you find comfort in something. Something than makes the mundane/bleak meaningful and worth it.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

I guess some of the things you mentioned already did that for me and its time to find something new again. Thank you!

I get that. I too felt trapped by the soulless traditional employment system, in which I worked in both private & public sector jobs (this was salmost 30 years ago) and spent my free time learning skills to take me out of it. I sort of didn't know that at the time, because it was kind of just a hobby.

I basically went online for the first time at home by buying my first computer workstation around late since '98, learned HTM on my own because it wasn't in library books yet, and I couldn't afford art tech college for design, and in '99 & opened my first web biz while still working FT in an insurance firm & PT temping at different offices around my metro area. I went full time doing website building & admin from home in 2005.

Now, I'm still doing web work (limited to certain projects), and tinker as a pseudo urban homesteader making real food & jerky and trading it for ₿

I saw your jerky by my Puma claws! It made me hungery. lol Good work! Hope to buy some soon!

Thank you for the inspiration!

badass

This is a genuine thought, and to tell the truth the dream of many people. However, it makes us realize that part of what we want is not necessarily beneficial for us, in several aspects - based on his report. But the main issue that I personally realized (and it’s just my humble opinion), is that abundance in something becomes bad for our lives. Just like gluttony and lust (which makes no link with your report, just an example of excess).

The truth is: drinking too much water is bad for you. Drinking too much alcohol is bad for you. Too many things in excess is bad.

As for being useful and feeling that you make a difference in the lives of others, I like your point. This undoubtedly brings us the purpose of why we are here on this earth, to help each other and be complete, in essence. 🫡⭐️

I'm sure if I end up broke I will regret writing this lol

I’ll hope that neither of the two things happen. 🙏

FIGHTING MY FRIEND 🫂💜

GOOD MORNING 🌅

That sounds like a tough situation to be in. It’s easy to imagine that doing nothing all day might feel like a dream, but when it leaves you feeling unfulfilled and disconnected, it can weigh heavily on your mental health. The lack of meaning or contribution in your work can definitely create a sense of stagnation.

It’s good that you recognize how this is affecting you and that you value having a purpose in your work. Maybe this is an opportunity to start exploring roles or projects, even within your current job, that align more with your desire to help and contribute. You could also use some of your downtime to invest in developing skills or passions that might prepare you for a more meaningful role in the future.

The fact that you’d take a pay cut for something more fulfilling speaks volumes about your priorities. It might be worth looking into jobs that balance flexibility with purpose, or even brainstorming ideas for starting your own business in an area you feel passionate about.

Change can feel daunting, but it sounds like you’re already taking the first step by reflecting on what truly matters to you. 🫂🤙💜

LOL I work in the energy industry and there is no one that wants my job as it is not able be done from home on the computer. I actually have to mask up and go in to the dirty holes are risk of life and limb. Then they want to pay me less! LOL but I actually do the work!

My anxiety followed me into Monday today unfortunately. Feel you bro. Good luck!

We colleagues?!
