A sustained, all consuming desire.

That is interesting that was pretty much my definition of greed.

I can see your angle tho

Greed is *a* passion.

I can agree to that i think 🤯🤝

A desire of doing something for the joy of doing it

Intrinsic motivation

The line between chaos and order

Is it a really blurry line? Because I feel like passion can exist in either of those spaces 🤨

I interupted as without passion we whould devolve into chaos

When I’m enveloped by feelings of passion, I feel like I’m in the “pocket”, that place where there’s the perfect amount of chaos and order. When there’s too much of either, order or chaos, it devolves into something devoid of passion.

Climbing a mountain without a rope, being dropped off in the middle of the wilderness with only a knife and a map, performing in a play, playing a musical piece, competing on the balance beam in the olympics…….all require passion and exist on that thin line between order and chaos.

It’s when we are doing the things, or being with the people, whereafter we say, “Wow, where did the time go. I didn’t even realize the day had disappeared.”

For me that’s passion.

I don’t think I can experience “passion” when there’s too much order, or too much chaos. It can be had, but it’s fleeting.

I guess I think of passion as more of the rails that guide desire rather than an independent thing. It's a form of emotional focus, I would say. If that makes sense 😅

It does.

Beautifully put. I call them BM’s - bottled moments. I like your explanation 😎💜

I also love being outside of my comfort zone too.

Thanks. Bottle moments. I think my kids will love that. Gonna steal it. 🤙

The unfamiliar excites me too.

We are all here to learn from eachother. I’m in my mid 50’s I taught my kids about BM’s when they were young - they realise now pots of gold will never be latex at your feet - scaling the rainbow will “bank” them though. 💜

Mosaics of the people we’ve met, the places we’ve been, and the stories we’ve been told.

I want mine to cover the walls of the world. Cracked and coloured with with the crimes of laughter and love, of pirates and coyotes.

🙌🔥💯💜

Aww two of my fave people conversing about bottled moments 🥹🫂💜

practicing practical magick

It’s a human emotion.

Passion? I guess if I were to attempt a definition without looking it up I would say something that is a powerful motivation for someone either in the short term or long term.

I think one can be passionate in short bursts about almost anything. One can deliberate on what the motivations are in that case, but I think it's possible.

That's my best guess without finding a dictionary.

I think you define it really well.

The dictionary is the most boring version i am really intrigued by the nuance and challenges to my own definitions

So much appreciated 🙏

I would take a dictionary definition before a Google-searched one at this point but generally, I agree.

I think maybe the dictionary is best used as a tool to expand our lexicon and help us develop a better understanding of the concepts we are exposed to.

I don't like the concept of "my truth." There is the truth and then our approximation of it. The truth exists, but any individual is varyingly limited in their ability to access, perceive and express it.

"My truth" is a very new age term and I'm not a fan of that ideology at all.

I see your point this "my Truth" is in this case meaning perspective and nuance.

The respect one is a good example it had a lot of overlap but many differences.

Many will ask for respect or give it but what that means imo can only be understood if you know their respect.

Fascination and expanding my own views and learning about others perspective without fighting about it is the Motivation here.

Being intensely interested by something or someone. Almost consumed by it

I am having a hard time putting my own definition into words 😅

Right now it pretty much boils down to a intense drive fueled by love

I like this. Intense drive fueled by love. So you’re referring to passion with someone right? What about passion for your work or for a specific hobby. Could it be fueled by intelligence or interest in a subject?

Or by a desire to learn

For a person yeah but also for work or desire to learn

As in i "love" to know more about x

And for work i "love" doing this or growing in this field

Yes that makes sense. Ultimately the intelligence or interest for a subject/curiosity is fueled by love

Yeah i am having trouble finding the words to describe when it crosses from intrest to passion.

Now that i think about it the consuming part you and others mentioned probably is a good way of saying it

Being consumed by your intense drive. It’s fueled by love.

Feels awkward for some reason. I feel like it’s missing a word or two

A intense drive that is fueled by love.

That leaves one with a sense of direction.

I am satisfied with that 😂

Sense of direction?

What about some basement dweller who is passionate about his card game or video game

Well you got me there lol

Maybe fulfillment instead of direction?

Fair enough 🤌

🤝🤝🤝

Passion is NEVER selling your soul for comfort! It’s about going outside the limits and investing in yourself, not things.

I’m passionate about seeing lots of the world. When I was younger it was always on the “smell of an oily rag” where fresh sheets and a pillow were a luxury not a necessity.

Where hustling was not about scamming, but helping each other out, to get to the next destination.

Passion for me is investing in the visuals the world has on a platter, for those willing to search for it. This is what enriching the soul and “banking” the memories of a passionate life, looks like. 🙏😎💜
