i think people are still uncertain that none of the core devs have been manipulated or coerced (even unknowingly) by external parties to push code through that benefits said parties.

like i alluded to before, people should actually be begging for alternatives and it's weird to centralize development and not give node runners a choice, even if it's just with config options
