So weird. A bunch of American TikTokers are fleeing the site ahead of its potential ban to an app called, Xiaohongshu or Little Red Book from China created by a guy named Charlwin Mao. Its terms of service state users must uphold socialist and Chinese values. But also Mao is a Stanford business and Bain Capital alum. So clearly as silicon valley as it gets in addition to being very Chinese too.

Just goes to show that social dynamics are as important to how these apps grow as the tech itself.

Are you sure that Charlwin another way to pronounce Chairman ?

Says a lot about public opinion of Meta. If you spend any time on TikTok you’ll hear a pretty clear statement from users that they’ll use literally anything else before going back to IG and FB.

Wait till these people learn who trained various rebel forces worldwide. 🤣🫂

And if you use a VPN, you can be jailed for 10 years. Not that I expect any of these real(?), probably also on BlueSky, posters to actually ever go to China. I bet they'd install Red Star OS if they could figure out Linux, just so they could align their system with their beliefs and against the capitalist evil empire they "regretfully call home".

I use a VPN on rednote / 小红书

I am banned from Bluesky

I would not go to China unless it gets safer

I use Linux but not Red Star OS

Capitalism sucks and you're retarded

"capitalism sucks and you're retarded"

I may agree with the second part, but care to explain the first part of that?

the second part was probably wrong but the capitalism part was spot on

capitalism has reached the point where people are so obsessed with a fake dollar that isn't even backed by gold anymore, it takes decades for society to switch to Bitcoin after Satoshi invents

Then your issue isn't with capitalism but fiat. We are on the same page.

Capitalism without fiat is just maybe not as bad

Depends on what you mean and understand from capitalism. It’s kinda of a loose term that carries with it a lot of ambiguity.

Does it mean one can operate I a way that distorts the markets? Because an unrestricted market gets distorted by those with power and influence. That power and influence comes from having a lot of capital. So it’s a tricky one.

“How do you have a fair market while removing the rules that make it fair?”

I've been using it and gotten way more engagement than I get on nostr. My posts all get engagement from multiple people while most on nostr get 0 or 1. It also doesn't block my VPN so idk how close it is to getting me imprisoned over it

all those tok refugees are gonna get banned from that service, inevitable. all roads lead to nostr, some are more direct than others.

I am a tiktok creator that went to xiaohongshu / love it there
