This is what “I will make you obsolete” moments are made of

Move to Nostr 🥹 We have communities. That might be able to fill the void.

2 requirements for bitcoindev imo

1. email interface (nostr bridge could work)

2. moderation (at least a moderated view)

You get moderation by having a closed off relay, and anyone can read from it.

& what’s off-the-shelf way to submit a note for moderated approval?

I like this idea, but it has issues. Write access is restricted to whitelisted npubs. But who runs this relay? Who's in charge of it? It's technically still ruggable by the owner if you're using a single relay.

Yeah that needs working out for sure, but broadcasting fixes that. Even to the extent that the conversation can continue without your knowledge with people you don't know.

maybe that's ok (in this case), if it's run by a community member there is public/social blame involved.

Backup relays with easy migration are also an option to mitigate this

1. This exists for at least receiving but I'm not sure about sending.

2. Communities have moderation, but NIP-72 and NIP-29, depending on the flavor.

I don't think a perfect solution exists.

IMO NIP-29 Is as perfect as it gets. Idk what people want, same is the situation with polls NIP-88 is awesome. But popular devs have apathy or just don't care.

I think SMTP email with optional PGP encryption could be good for the inner circle

For transparency, nostr or matrix homeserver (not matrix.org) is best way to go currently imho

If nostr, we need to up our gift wrap encrypted notes game for the inner circle comms

embrace the hydra 💪

Could use Nostr no?

You building it? 😉

MIT Bitcoin Expo THIS FRIDAY is offering a $2,500 decentralized application prize.

Remote OK. Nostr Bitcoin Dev Mailing List could definitely win. I’m recruiting help.

define "help"?

We need to write a kickass presentation and deliver a demo. Someone to run the team is even better since payjoin implementations are being done at the hackathon at the same time

I joined the hackathon, building a tool exactly for that :)

i am shocked

SHOCKED

that turned out badly.

who would've thought using centralized solutions would bite us in the ass?

😢😢😢

the forces are at work flex where and when they can

#evil $GOOGL #Bitcoin

"barriers to entry"

Moving to google mailing list was a stupid movement.

I wish I had a better alternative to suggest

This is like a weekend hack shit together using khatru relay and smtp. I mean this is not hard, right?

add Lightning micro paywall (e.g. 100 sats) in order to avoid spam and as POW that you're a real legit bitcoiner

Yes IMO the hardest thing is presenting it well

Frankly anything running on nostr imo with decent UI/UX will be even better than a centralized server. I like Delving Bitcoin but its... still centralized and I can't search thread content off an API afaik

Any similar UX to delving but with relays, would be great.

ok the biggest issue is that to have an email server you need smtp. So you could build an alt but you’d need to convince all users to use nostr

MAKE THIS CENTRALIZED SHIT OBSOLETE

Hey you, do a weekend hack shit together using khatru relay and smtp. I mean this is not hard, right? add Lightning micro paywall (e.g. 100 sats) in order to avoid spam and as POW that you're a real legit bitcoiner.

Clearly we should have talked about Doge instead.

No need to reinvent the wheel. All the open source heavy lifting has already been done. Just spin up a VPS and do it yourself.

Yeah except for the part where most vps providers have all of their ip addresses that are used for smtp blacklisted by google and microsoft, which are probably 90% of people receiving the mail.

I still try to desparately run a single domain on a vps. I have set up PTR records, dkim, dmarc and spf and i still had to contact some microsoft support to have my ip unblocked by subscribing to an abuse list in case this domain js flagged with abuse/spam. This is actually what we agreed upon dmarc records should be used for, but alas. If you control 90% of the email traffic on the internet you apparently get to set your own rules too.

GitHub next?

What they doing over there. Google reads all your shit and they talking about decentralizing the whole on Google hahaha ohh man

De-google everything.

What happened? Community bitcoin dev is being reported spammed or what ?
