Is it possible to be a bitcoiner (with everything that this spirit represents) and support taxes ???

Only if we trust who's collecting the taxes to actually have our best interest at heart.

Good luck with that. Lol

It makes sense, the problem is that if it is paid voluntarily without coercion it stops being a tax

Is a 'bitcoiner' an ideological follower?

Wanting to separate money from the state collides with any totalitarian ideology

i dont think so at a philosophical level. If you really get to a definition-level of Voluntaryism, even the most basic government services would be fees paid for services. Taxation, and I would define it as a fee under threat of violence for non-payment, would go away.

With that said, from a practical standpoint I believe in using bitcoin and would support reasonable taxation that is far, far lower than where we are at in the US today if it meant any level of progress.

I should have said a fee owed to the State under threat of violence for non-payment. Not just anyone threatening you for your shit.

I agree... my point is that if you pay it voluntarily without coercion, it stops being a tax... if coercion is going to continue, why do we want to separate the money from the state ???

Well, if you define taxes as something like a membership fee like for being in some club, then yes, why not?

The membership in this club offers you (some) protection, some basic services and with its partner program the entry to other clubs based on its membership card.

If the club forces me to pay even if I do not agree with their package of offers... then why do I want to separate the control of the money from the club ???

The club should under no circumstances be able to control the money. But regarding the part of not agreeing with the clubs "service package": Well, in an ideal world it would be pretty easy to just switch to another club.

You say the correct words: in an ideal world

I don't think that is possible to stay logically consistent to know what BTC is about and believe in government and all that it entails at all.

Yes. But even bitcoiners can be idiots 🤷

Before I made a post where I said that it is no coincidence that the vast majority of Nostr users don't trust the government... it seems to be related

Yes it is. There are communist Bitcoiners. I'm not one of them so don't @ me.

My inaccurate memory of why is something like Bitcoin allows for opt in governance through fidelity bonds (as seen in join market) and other mechanisms I'm sure, and that Bitcoin allows for a transparent government budget where if its set up right the people of that country can coerce their government into making decisions they want (I don't really remember how that one was supposed to work and my use of the word coerce is my cliff note understanding of it)

Yes, you can perfectly create a society that pays taxes and uses bitcoin as currency, it is applicable... my point is that it clashes with the spirit that they promote about bitcoin, of separating money from the state, of not financing wars, etc.

Commies in theory don't want taxes, but that's a rare world that I don’t fully understand

I might say “if taxes are voluntary, then why not?”… but this doesn’t really make sense.

Because membership in the entity (that we call “government”) which levies taxes also must be voluntary for voluntary taxes to make sense.

And for this “voluntary membership” to have any effect, individuals would need to have meaningful choices for their governance … but then land gets in the way.

So if governance is dictated by physical territory (where one lives or works) then no … people would have no practical means to choose governance and therefore voluntary taxes are meaningless.

Open borders? Try obliterating borders all together. Government is for people not for land. Only then would bitcoiners support voluntary taxation.

But hey. That’s my stupid take.

It makes much sense

Yes, not saying I do. But taxes are not inherently bad unless required against one’s will.

It makes sense, except that if they are paid voluntarily they are no longer taxes, there is my conflict

My point is not that they adopted bitcoin, it is going to eliminate taxes... but that I think it clashes with the spirit that we promoted around bitcoin
