Bluesky had a rallying cry that brought users in. In the millions!

That THEN was the launch for them to raise funds and grow even more.

What’s nostrs rallying cry to bring in more users, to then launch it beyond?

People think there’s X, and then there’s Bluesky (which are claiming to be the decentralized people focused protocol). Outside Bitcoin they have no fucking clue about nostr, and even many bitcoiners won’t use nostr.

What's the rush?

People will come when they (and we) are ready.

Not a rush…but will they come?

Bluesky is sleek AF. Sure, community can be toxic especially to bitconers etc.

But the UX is insanely good and they know what they’re doing, there’s a vision.

I think nostr could learn from that.

Nostr comes at a price. I think that's a good thing.

Normies yolo-ing into the next virtue-signalling honeypot is not a loss to Nostr.

It works because it’s centralized. The moment you start dealing with relays you’ll learn that it’s not about vision but the reality of dealing with a truly decentralized protocol.

I think the more zaps happen on the network it’ll incentivize more and more people to come because that’s kind of the biggest USP it has over BS imo.

I anticipate it being more organic growth vs what BlueSky saw. The was just mostly due to X being ran by a Nazi than anything BS was doing right.

"...the launch for them to raise funds and grow even more." ... which AFAIK is why nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummn9eek7cmfv9kz7qfnwaehxw309ah8wcewwpexjmtpdshxuet59ashjan2d3jkjmrd0qcxzmphdge8qut5xg68zetyx9arwcfcwvqsuamnwvaz7tmwdaejumr0dshsz9mhwden5te0wfjkccte9ec8y6tdv9kzumn9wshsz9nhwden5te0wfjkccte9ekk7um5wgh8qatz9uq36amnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3dxqcju7tpdd5ksmmwdejjucm0d5hsz8mhwden5te0dehhxarj94ex2mrp0yhxgetjv44hymmnwvhx6ef0qy08wumn8ghj7ctsdyhxvun9v4n8ymmd9eehqctrv5hhvvf0waeszythwden5te0xy6rqtnxxaazu6t09uqzpq35r7yzkm4te5460u00jz4djcw0qa90zku7739qn7wj4ralhe4zsx79yn left to fund the creation of Nostr...

I think it remains to be seen whether the same external commercial and political forces that tore apart Twitter won't do the same thing to Bluesky.

If I could hazard a guess the comparison between Nostr and Bluesky will wind up being a bit like Bitcoin vs Ethereum. Similarly, there will come a moment, just as happened with "The DAO" in 2016, when the "Bluesky CEO" will be forced to make some tough choices about censorship and what to allow on the network (or, let's be clear, the "reference client" because this is still technically open source).

Vitalik Buterin said "code is Law" until there were $millions lost from bad code. Then he said "you know what, maybe Law is Law", and reversed it.

Will Jay Graber make the same choice?

the strongest implementations of nostr have been social media and adjacent apps because something that is palatable for most people because the people can take it in lots of directions.

but nostr is more than social media. the way it grows isn't going to be the same as "fund it and they will come" of it's contemporaries.

comparing nostr as a social media to others is just looking at one part without taking into account the whole.

Who the fuck outside of NOSTR even talks about Bluesky?

The only time I hear about it is here, people on NOSTR crying about BS.

Get a live.

And be gracefull these people are NOT here.

Let them use Mastodon, FB, BS who cares.

This is not DisneyWorld, we don't need to attract everyone.

I've held bitcoin for like a decade and even I am finding the process of setting up a client and attaching a lightning wallet to be confusing, poorly documented and overall very frustrating.

I never used Bitcoin once before joining Nostr and I figured it out. Post a note with the hashtag #asknostr for help, someone will assist 👍
