There are a lot of ways to chase status & avoid reality & there are many mindless indulgences that one can pursue. Doing what is right or what is best in the long run is always a much more limited set of choices.

Proverbs 3:5-6

English Standard Version

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

Your "own understanding" whether of the Bible or the world around you is all there is. I don't think God gave us brains in order to have us renounce the use of them. I'm sure there's probably some broader context or poor translation that better explains 5

Most evils come from just such renunciations. It's not the thinking people who blindly obey tyrannical orders.

"In all your ways acknowledge [God]"

In all your ways acknowledge truth or reality.

Don't split yourself in two in an effort to justify doing the expedient at the expense of what is right.
